Why RoadPeace » Our work
Our work
Our work is organised into three main areas
Support services for road crash victims
• Emotional support including a national helpline for road crash victims, a befriending network and our Resilience Building support programmes
• Practical information guides that explain the post crash legal procedures
• Advocacy and casework including attending inquests, trials or meetings with the bereaved family and the police, CPS, or their MP.
Campaign for justice for road victims
• RoadPeace champions the rights of road crash victims to ensure the trauma they suffer is acknowledged. To this end, RoadPeace researches and documents the experiences of road crash victims, using the findings to inform and influence policy makers, agencies, the media and the public.
Campaign for road danger reduction
• RoadPeace works for real road safety to make the roads safer for everyone by reducing road danger. (What is Road Danger Reduction?)
• Our key priority is for speed reduction - slower speeds make sense, they reduce the severity of injuries, but more importantly reduce the likelihood of a collision in the first place.
RoadPeace also works at the international level, cooperating under the umbrella of the European Federation of Road Traffic Victims with road victim organisations in Europe and beyond and the United Nations and World Health Organisation
Our priorities are to
1. Provide practical information, advocacy, and emotional support for road crash victims.
2. Work for an improved post crash response by the justice sector including thorough investigation, appropriate prosecution, and fair compensation.
3. Campaign to reduce road danger through tackling bad driving and promoting active travel.
4. Highlight any criminal, civil and social injustice that families encounter so that lessons can be learned.
