Resilience Building Support Programme
This unique programme has been developed by one of our patrons, Dr. Noreen Tehrani. Noreen is a chartered occupational, counselling and health psychologist with a special interest in psychological trauma. She has worked with survivors of mass disasters and realises, as a patron of RoadPeace, that the level of trauma support available to those bereaved by road crashes is woefully insufficient.
Background
The course was originally designed for survivors of traumas world-wide (e.g. the Tsunami) and has been adapted for people bereaved by road death.
Taking part over 6 sessions, small groups work with certified trauma therapists and aim to provide participants with a tool box of skills to help them cope with stress, negative thoughts, anxiety, panic attacks, sleeplessness and nightmares. All natural reactions to an unnatural death.
The programme is well tested. The pilot programme, funded by Awards for All, was held in London in Autumn 2009; it was extended, with funding from the Ministry of Justice Victims and Witnesses Fund, on a larger scale last year.
There is no charge for attending a resilience building course, as it is being funded till 2014 by the Victims and Witnesses Fund.
