RoadPeace press release

1 April 2007

First UN Global Road Safety Week 23-29 April 2007, dedicated to the safety of young road users, sees events held worldwide, to mark this week:

  • UN in Geneva launches a 'Guide' for World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims, produced by RoadPeace and FEVR, in collaboration with the World Health Organisation www.who.int/roadsafety click Projects.
  • RoadPeace is holding a Panel Discussion in Westminster 'Murder most Foul' revisited: Are we doing enough for our young people or are we still blaming the most vulnerable?'
  • RoadPeace is organising a Parliamentary Meeting on the benefit of black boxes - 'Making roads safer and greener'
  • 'When Lives Collide' exhibition is held in Leeds from 3-28 April (throughout RSW) at Exhibition Space, Whitehall Waterfront, 2 Riverside Way, Leeds LS1 4EH, open between 11am and 6pm, www.whenlivescollide.co.uk

Guide for World Day

Since this Day was adopted by the United Nations on 26 October 2005 as World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims, more countries than ever have started to observe this day. To help others who want to join, a Guide was produced, giving examples of past events organised by RoadPeace and its sister organisations in Europe and beyond, and of suggestions for future ceremonies and other events.

Panel Discussion

Based on the publication of the same title from 1947, a 'Question time' programme will have speakers from the DfT, TfL, LSHTM and GLA answer relevant questions on the topic. Held on 26 April, 2.30-4.30pm, at the Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fund Offices, Westminster Bridge Road, London SE1 7PB

Parliamentary Meeting

Black boxes have the potential to reduce dangerous driving and pollution by reducing speeding and unnecessary journeys, they are also valuable for evidence after a crash regarding driving standards. Held by the All Party Group for Justice for Road traffic Victims, on 26 April, Portcullis House, Westminster, Room O, 12noon - 2pm.
